The FLDS Way Is to Teach Children through Love

2008-08-02 11:08:20

By Donald Richter

Several affidavits showing the appalling abuse that Dan Fischer heaped on his wives and children were filed with the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. The Deseret New of August 1, 2008, quotes Dan Fischer’s response:

“it is interesting that the charges of FLDS 'affidavits' trying to malign me really amount to charging me with living an FLDS lifestyle and conducting myself in accordance with the teaching of the leadership and the typical day-to-day life of FLDS adherents."

For Dan Fischer to justify his own misconduct by saying that he was only living the teachings of the FLDS leadership is a flagrant misrepresentation. FLDS teachings always have emphasized persuasion through love, not compliance through force and brutality. Dan is attempting to perpetuate the same myth that Carolyn Jessop so loudly proclaims in her book Escape—that brutality toward children is the accepted norm in FLDS society.

I have already addressed this subject in detail in dealing with Carolyn’s book, quoting from the teachings of Leroy S. Johnson and Warren S. Jeffs. Read the true FLDS teachings and practice regarding the raising of children in the article “You Can’t ‘Escape’ the Truth.”
